I was at an event at an El Paso concert hall a few ago. I noticed the building had little alcoves off the main walkways that once house payphones. These days all they house are the empty wood carrels without phones.

Why that stuck in my head since the 90's and I cannot remember what I did 20 minutes ago.

Does it function
? Do you have small shiny flat cylinders?

There’s a taco shop near me with a payphone in the lot. My kid saw it and asked me what it was.

Didnt 1-800-CALL- ATT have better rates?

Yes, which is why smart people dial down the center

That takes me back to my 1st trip to Vegas 1996, there was a bank of gold pay phones by the bathroom at C
easar’s Palace and all the hookers hung out there waiting for their pager to go off.

Did you use it to dial 1-900-MIXALOT? Or maybe 867-5309?

Yeah, I don’t think I had one until freshman year of college. And that was a crappy clamshell flip phone. Until then, collect calling from pay phones was what got me through (I’ve always hated carrying change, leave it to collect d ust at home in an ashtray or old hub cap).

Went to a reception at night at the Getty, was a pretty spectacular experience, though they didn’t have the whole collection open for viewing.

I often transfer at the ROOSEVELT station when I ride the El in Chicago. There is still what appears to be a functional pay phone ON THE PLATFORM.

I think it’s called a “payphone.”

The collection is stunning. And the building itself is every bit as amazing as the artwork. I took a lot of photos of the museum building.

Pager. LOL.

I did not see if it had a dial tone. But I used to have an ATT calling card back in the day.

We were at the Monterey Bay Aquarium a few days ago and there was a guy rocking a flip phone to take pictures of the fish. The flip phone I had back in the day had such a shitty camera as to make it almost useless.

They should turn them into charging stations.
